An extensive extended voyage around the Australian Coast was terminated days after the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a break. The liner left without her and went back later that day after the ship staff realised the woman was unaccounted for.

A major rescue mission located her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that travelers and staff on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also issued an latest statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the liner.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, she succumbed, by herself."

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

The vessel caters for up to 120 passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to company information. It was specifically designed to reach isolated regions of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on shore trips.
