Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than 27 years in prison, but he continued under confinement pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a document approving the detention, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
